Running to escape and stay sane

It has been more than a month since I have written anything on my blog. I am still running during my lunch hour most days and have a race on Memorial Day in Hendersonville, Tenn.

Mostly, I now run to maintain fitness -- as well as to escape reality and keep sane. I am preparing to start a new chapter in my life in August, when I begin a tenure-track journalism faculty position at Murray (Ky.) State University -- home of the Racers! I already have started the publication and presentation portion of tenure requirements with some success. This is the most stressful part of tenure, I believe, but I understand the importance of research.

There also are issues ongoing personally, but those will work out on their own. Work issues until I start at Murray State are also plaguing me. Those, too, will work out somehow.

Running right now just helps me to clear the cobwebs in my head so I can think more clearly and appreciate the athletic ability I have. One day, I will become more competitive in racing, but for now, I need to use running as a God-given tool to help me with life's everyday challenges.
